44 - tarsals anatomy

the bones in the hindfoot AND midfoot ( TARSALS ) are talus , calcaneum , navicular , medial , intermediate and lateral cuneiforms ( first , second and third respectively ) , cuboid .

the third or lateral cuneiform articulates with 6 bones , whereas the medial and intermediate cuneiforms articulate with 4 bones each . the cuboid articulates with 4 bones too but sometimes it articulates with the navicular too .

navicular and talus articulates with 4 bones each and the calcaneum articulates with 2 bones .
